17 Month Old Pointing

Hello,

My 17 month old daughter only points with her index finger occasionally to show things of interest in books and in the environment. She uses her whole hand to point to things she wants/needs. I did an online mchat questionnaire and am considered as this is linked to autism.

Can you tell me why index finger pointing is so important?I have no other concerns about her,she uses 2 word phrases and has about 10 consistent words, great eye contact and imaginative play. She does use her index finger to point and otherwise occasionally but not always.

Is this something to be concerned about?
