what to do about a husband who mumbles & speaks softly

I have been married to a man for 32 years who mumbles & speaks so softly no one can hear him. His speech is not a problem when he is on a business call - loud & clear - but within the family or social settings, he mumbles & people ask him to repeat what he says because they cannot hear him. A number of our friends comment on his mumbling. It is a constant argument between us (mainly me as I am TIRED of saying, "what?" for 32 years). Can you please help? Susan
