What is Her Problem?

by Nicky
(UK)

I work with a 40 month old girl who says "h" at the beginning and sometimes the middle of every word eg. hehha hid for Peppa Pig.

If you get to know her you can understand her from context etc but otherwise it's very difficult.

Is there a specific problem here?

Answer to "What is her problem?"

This seems to be a phonological problem called backing. Give her a phonological test such as the Khan-Lewis Phonological Analysis (KLPA2)which accompanies the Goldman Fristoe Articulation Test 2 (GFT2).

Also, look into buying the "Phonological Process Finder" app in which you can type the phoneme the person says and the substitution it makes and it tells you the phonological process the client is using.

Hope this helps.
