I have a friend who is 17 but can not pronounce certain words right, slowed speech, and became mute through his 7-9th grade school years.

What can I do to help him? He rarely talks to me and when he does he just expresses his love for me repeating the same words over and over as if thats all he knows. I want to help him and support him but I just dont know how.
