Apraxic 3 Year Old

by Kelly
(PA)

I recently started working with a 3 year old child diagnosed with apraxia.

He has an expressive vocabulary of 3 words but does not use them consistently. He does not string sounds together.

He mostly uses gestures. He is resistant to any type of oral motor imitatative tasks or imitation of sounds.

I have tried working on awareness of mouth and articulators but he will not put anything in his mouth (horns, party blowers, straws, etc).

I'm hoping that I need to first build rapport with this child and he will become more comfortable with attempting to imitate.

I'd appreciate any tips or ideas. Thanks!
