The Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Fifth Edition (PPVT-5) is designed to measure a subject’s receptive (hearing) vocabulary for the spoken word in Standard American English. A student is asked to identify a picture from a set of four, which best represents the spoken word given by the examiner.  The responses then generate a standard score.  The mean standard score is 100 and the standard deviation is 15, therefore performances between 85 and 115 are within the average range.
