Overall Assessment of the Speaker’s Experience of Stuttering (OASES)

The Overall Assessment of the Speaker’s Experience of Stuttering (OASES) is designed to examine the overall impact of stuttering on a person’s life. A self-reported measure is utilized to evaluate a speaker’s perceptions of observable stuttering behaviors, reactions to stuttering, difficulties in performing daily activities involving communication, and a speaker’s overall perception of the degree stuttering impacts the quality of life.  The test is administered across various age groups that include school-aged children (School Aged: 7-12yrs) teenagers (Teens: 13-17yrs) and adults (Adult: 18yrs and older). Each item is scored on a 5-point Likert like scale. A higher score indicates a greater negative impact of stuttering on the speaker.
